From dedicated parking and on-course transport services, we aim to ensure comfort and ease of access for everyone. Whether you need disability assistance, accessible restrooms or just a bit of extra support, we're here to help.

Entry points

All turnstile entries are equipped with accessible entries to accommodate wheelchair users and those who require additional assistance. Accessible entry points include:

  • The Hill Gate via Leonard Crescent
  • Flemington Drive Entrance via Epsom Road
  • Train Station via Platform 1 or 2
  • The Elms via Lynches Bridge

Racegoers are encouraged to use public transport, with easy access via Flemington Racecourse Station.

Parking offers three access options:

  • Hill Gate Entry: The path from the Showgrounds Car Park via Langs Road has a gradient of 1 in 12.
  • Flemington Drive Entrance: The tunnel leading into Flemington has a steeper gradient of 1 in 6.
  • There will be public parking available via Showgrounds Gate 5 at $30 per vehicle
  • For those with DDA Stickers, there is a designated car park and accessibility shuttle at Smithfield Road.

Transport Services, Parking & Drop-off Locations

New for Melbourne Cup Carnival 2024 is a designated and free Disabled Car Park, access is via Smithfield Road Entry. An accessible Shuttle Service run by Wheelaway will run from this car park to the Phar Lap main entry.

All vehicles must display a disabled parking permit. The following areas are designated for accessible parking:

Public

  • 6 accessible parking bays are available in the VIP Car Park, adjacent to the Hill Gate entry via Leonard Crescent.

VRC Members

  • 40 accessible parking bays are located at the rear of Rank 3 & 4 in the Members Unreserved Car Park.

NB:  the geometry of these car parks is such that the car parking spaces are not designed to DDA Standards and are not as accommodating of DDA requirements.

RIDESHARE

Drop-off for patrons choosing to arrive at Flemington by rideshare is available at all three main Entrances (The Main Gate, The Elms Gate and The Hill Gate). Rideshare is a suitable option for drop-off only.  All patrons should consider other transport options before choosing rideshare for their trip home. The only designated rideshare pick-up zone will be located adjacent The Nursery, near The Birdcage pedestrian overpass.

LIMOUSINE / LICENSED HIRE CARS (VHA/B/C)

Limousines and licensed hire cars have access to drop off at all three main entrances. No limousines or hire cars are permitted to enter Flemington Racecourse without a pre-organised booking.

Members Car Park / Main Taxi Rank
All vehicles should enter via Stables Drive Entrance off Smithfield Rd. VHA/B/C cars and limousines returning at the end of the day to collect patrons will be directed to park in the limousine holding area within the main Members Car Park (Wetlands) and will be called down to the patron collection point when their client is ready to depart.

Riverbank Precinct
Access to The Elms Gate will be via a one-way road from Smithfield Road (at Lynch’s Bridge Entrance) to the designated drop-off area at the Riverbank Precinct, then exiting via a left
turn at Fisher Parade. VHA/B/C cars and Limousines returning at the end of the day to collect patrons will enter via Lynch’s Bridge Entrance and will be directed to the limousine holding area and will be called down to The Elms patron collection point when their client is ready to depart.

Hill Gate
Access to the designated drop-off area (adjacent the rear of VIP Carpark) is via Gate 7a of the Showgrounds off Langs Rd. VHA/B/C cars and limousines returning at the end of the day to collect patrons will be directed to a holding area within the Showgrounds located a short walk from the VIP carpark. Drivers will need to exit via Gate 7c and follow the one way road down Leonard Crescent on to Fisher Parade.

Accessible taxi ranks are conveniently located at:

  • The main taxi rank near the Phar Lap Statue via Stables Drive (entry via Smithfield Road)
  • The Hill Gate via Leonard Crescent

Private Hire Vehicles and Uber
VHA/B & C cars and Rideshare services, including Uber, can access Flemington via Hill Gate (entry via Leonard Crescent).

Trains
All train services are wheelchair accessible. If you need assistance boarding, please wait near the front of the train on the platform.
Flemington Racecourse Train Station has access at platforms 1 and 2.

Trams
Extra tram services will run along Route 57. Please note, low-floor trams do not operate on Route 57, so passengers using mobility aids are advised to take the train to Flemington Racecourse.

Buses

  • Route 472: Travel from Williamstown, Footscray, or Moonee Ponds to Fisher Parade, and enter via the Riverbank entrance.
  • Route 404: Travel from Footscray or Moonee Ponds to Smithfield Road, and enter via the Stables Drive entrance.

Travellers Aid Australia
Travellers Aid Australia is a friendly and professional organisation offering free personal care services and mobility equipment hire for seniors and people with limited mobility.

They are conveniently located at:

  • Flinders Street Station: Inside the ticketed barrier area between Platforms 9 & 10.
  • Southern Cross Station: On the main concourse, opposite the Luggage Hall. A free buggy transport and personal guidance service is also available at Southern Cross Station.

Information Points

Designated Information Points are located at all main entrances and key areas within the turnstiles. Our staff are available to assist you with directions or any requirements you may have.

During the 2024 Melbourne Cup Carnival you can find Information Points at the following locations: Main Entrance near the Taxi Rank, The Nursery, The Betting Ring, Train Station (Platform 1), The Hill Gate Entrance and The Elms Gate (just inside the turnstiles).


On course services and facilities

We provide a range of on-course services and facilities all designed to ensure your comfort and convenience throughout the event. 

Wheelaway is ready to help with wheelchair-accessible vans and buggies to get you to your destination during the 2024 Melbourne Cup Carnival. 

A designated shuttle bus stops at the following locations:

  • Disabled Car Park (Smithfield Road Entry)
  • Bottom of the pedestrian path from Epsom Road
  • Phar Lap (adjacent to the Main Taxi Rank and main entrance)
  • The Hill Gate
  • The Elms Gate
  • The Panoramic Enclosure (Infield)

If you need help getting around course, our DAS is available throughout the event. Our trained team is ready to assist you or your companions. To request assistance, visit any Information point.

Additionally, the team will be roaming the venue, so if you need help at any time, just speak to any staff member, and they will contact the DAS Team for you.

Public Viewing Areas

  • A limited amount of accessible viewing areas are available at the eastern end of the TAB Saintly Place Sports Bar.

Reserved Seating Viewing Areas

  • Racegoers who have a reserved seat in The Hill Stand can access it via The Grandstand lifts.

VRC Member Viewing Areas

  • The Grandstand Level 4, The View: Wheelchair bays available
  • The Club Stand Levels 1, 2 & 3: Wheelchair bays available

  • Flemington Heritage Centre and Eastern end of the Betting Ring
  • Hill Road - on Railway Platforms 1 & 2 (Platform 2 accessed from Hill Gate)

  • The Hill Stand - Access via western lift in The Grandstand to Level 4 (The View) and then dedicated wheelchair lift. Also accessible via Level 2 (The Atrium) through the Hill Stand Ground Level.
  • Chairman's Club - Access via the Eastern lift in The Grandstand to Level 3 (Chairman's Club)

Public Areas for Patrons with Limited Mobility:

  • Breezeway, Saintly Place, Betting Ring, and Front Lawn areas. Access through The Members Grandstand is available.

*Available only during Melbourne Cup Carnival

  • The Grandstand: Members with limited mobility can access Levels 1 (The Forum), 2 (The Atrium), 4 (The View), and 5 (The Peak) via the eastern lift from The Betting Ring. Level 1 (The Forum) is also accessible through the main entrance opposite the railway station.

  • Skyline Dining: Please request assistance in getting through the Grandstand from a member of staff, who will be able to contact the DAS Team.

  • Chairman's Club: Members and guests with limited mobility may enter via the Eastern lift in The Grandstand to Level 3 (Chairman's Club).

  • Public Areas: All public areas are accessible. If you are seeking the most accessible route to your destination, please enquire at one of the Information Points situated at all of our main entries.

All Mobility Equipment will be operated by the DAS Team. If you require a wheelchair or mobility equipment, please ask a member of staff.

Hidden Disabilities - Sunflower Lanyards

Sunflower lanyards are available for free at all Accessibility and Information points throughout the event on each day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

If you or someone you're with has a Hidden Disability and needs additional assistance, understanding, or time to enjoy your visit to Flemington Racecourse, please go to one of the Accessibility and Information points near each main gate.

Our friendly staff will help you with a lanyard and provide all the necessary information to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
