Rockhampton embraces the magic of the People's Cup

The visit showcased the unifying power of the People's Cup, with hundreds of locals seizing the rare opportunity to see, hold and photograph the coveted trophy, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Rockhampton Jockey Club Chief Executive David Aldridge said welcoming the Melbourne Cup to the region was a proud moment for the local racing community.

"We regard ourselves as the Flemington of the North, so what better place to have the Melbourne Cup?

We wanted to bring the Cup to the community of Rockhampton for people to see what it's really like, to hold it, to touch it and have their photograph with it. It's such an iconic trophy that everybody wants to see and be part of," Aldridge said.

Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour Ambassador Rob Hickmott said taking the Cup beyond metropolitan centres was what made the Tour so special.

"It's great to get out to these country areas and give people a look at an iconic piece of racing history. To actually see the Cup in real life is a one-off opportunity they may never have again, and these remote places are fantastic to visit," Hickmott said.

One of the Tour's most memorable stops was Croydon Station at Clark Creek, where the Cup was welcomed by local families from across the region.

Property owner Meg Speed said the visit was about far more than racing.

"For us it's about connection and getting the community together because we don't have many opportunities to celebrate our little region."

"We never thought we'd actually get the Cup here, so to have this million-dollar trophy come all the way to tiny Clark Creek is amazing. We feel incredibly lucky and it's brought our whole community together," Speed said.
