Best Suited: A sharp finish

6 November 2026 • Written by Celia Purdey

The Crown Oaks Day Best Suited field brought plenty of variety to the promenade, with more than a few touches of pink in keeping with the day’s theme. In the week’s final preliminary heat, entrants made one last bid to join those who had qualified earlier in the carnival for the grand final later that afternoon.

Traditionally known as ‘Ladies Day’, Crown Oaks Day brought a more feminine feel to the competition, with softer tones and pastels featuring prominently. Suits came in every cut and silhouette, but shades of green, pinstripes, and checks proved particularly popular.

Three entrants secured their places in the grand final.

Masika Kambere chose a cream pinstriped trouser suit with wide-leg trousers and a pink shirt, accessorised with a navy wide-brimmed fedora and embellished bow slingbacks.

Sam McGlone brought a Western influence to his olive double-breasted suit, pairing flared trousers with a cream cowboy hat, green tie, floral boutonnière and brown leather shoes.

The third finalist wore a mint-green check jacket and matching waistcoat with cream trousers, a white shirt and navy tie. A tan straw fedora, dark sunglasses, white boutonnière and brown tasselled loafers completed the look.

Still to come: The Remix

Fashions on the Field isn't over yet. On TAB Champions Stakes Day, Saturday 7 November, the carnival concludes with the inaugural Fashions on the Field: The Remix presented by Rack It Club.

The new competition celebrates creativity, individuality and conscious fashion choices through three pillars: Rewear, showcasing vintage, archival and rental pieces; Rework, for customised, upcycled and reinvented looks; and Restyle, rewarding fresh, modern interpretations of racewear.

Entrants can compete in two categories: Best Dressed: The Remix and Best Suited: The Remix.
