Race Review

We kick off the day, and indeed the new season with an interesting little staying clash. NEARCO FROD (5) has proven a class above midweek grade with back-to-back victories in fine style. He drops 2.5kg in weight now and gets a lovely draw for Blake Shinn who returns from injury. On face value, BLACK RUN (2) was disappointing in the Deane Lester Cup here last time when leading and fading. He was only beaten 0.8 lengths in a blanket go but he was simply outsprinted. Would love to see Houston turn this into a staying test from the front. OUR CHIEF (6) steps up from 3yo grade off a tough win last week at Caulfield. He ticked the 2400m box there and has to be respected again. STOP THE ROCK (4) just battled over 2000m last week but up in trip on the quick backup suits, he can improve. SHULTZY (8) is going well at the midweeks and could measure up.
