Fashions History

Through change we hold on to our traditions.

In 1962, the Victoria Racing Club founded Fashions on the Field at Flemington and over the decades, it has become an iconic fixture of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

A continuing partnership with Myer and the evolution of the competition has established Myer Fashions on the Field as Australia’s largest and most prestigious outdoor fashion event.

During its colourful history, Myer Fashions on the Field has undergone several transformations and in 2018, the competition entered the digital age, with a photo-based competition for interstate contestants.

In 2020, there was significant unprecedented change. The opportunity to expand the competition, allowing contestants from across Australia to participate saw the Northern Territory and the ACT take part for the first time. The growth of the competition was unparalleled and it was aptly renamed Fashions on your Front Lawn® to signify that entrants could participate from anywhere in Australia.

A new era has begun, but one thing stays unchanged: the tradition and meaning of the competition will always remain a celebration of fashion and racing.
